The trip was fairly cool except for a few drawbacks. I went to see the Road America round of the America LeMans Series. Essentially sports cars racing, but there was some openwheel support series running as well. I think they were Formula BMW and some Star Mazda and other Mazda series. One of my big problems is that I'm caught some bug (or haven't recovered fully from before). Going around yesterday was pretty tough and I had some major coughing to deal with. Secondly, I rented a "big" lens to take pics with. The problem is it was too big and difficult to lug around. I had a big 400mm and it weighed about 11 lbs. So carrying it around while sick and all around the track sucked. I carried it for about 5 hours and gave up. Felt bad since I rented the lens, but I was really tired and sick.
Surprisingly, once shedding the extra weight, I was doing fairly well except for the rough cough. I was using my 70-200mm and have to say it was refreshing. From previous events, I thought it really heavy, but it really is all relative. I do have new perspective, and think the 70-200 is a great lens and isn't all that cumbersome. However, after using the Canon 400mm f2.8 IS USM, and seeing how fast it is, the 70-200 which I thought fast seemed slow focusing.
I'll see about getting my pics processed today. I did shoot RAW+small jpeg so I can review them nice and quick. Probably can even post the jpegs.
